The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has officially called on all interested aspirants to register for nominations ahead of the upcoming by-elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 14, the ruling party confirmed that the nomination exercise will take place next month on September 20, 2025. The registration window for interested candidates opened today, August 14, and will remain open until September 5, 2025, at exactly 5:00 p.m. Applicants are required to submit their details through the party’s online portal, which can be accessed via www.uda.ke.

“Notice is hereby given that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations shall be held on 20th September 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for nomination by registering through the UDA party portal accessible at www.uda.ke,” the statement read in part. “The registration period will commence on August 14, 2025, and close on September 5, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.”

The party has also outlined the nomination fees for different positions. For the Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats, male aspirants will pay Ksh50,000, while women, youths, and persons living with disabilities (PWDs) will pay Ksh25,000.

For the Member of Parliament (MP) positions, male aspirants are expected to pay Ksh250,000, while women, youths, and PWDs will pay Ksh125,000. The same rates will apply for those seeking the Baringo senatorial seat. All nomination fees are non-refundable and will be paid through the party’s designated bank account or via mobile money.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the by-elections for November 27, 2025, giving nominated aspirants just over two months to conduct their campaigns.

By-elections will be held in over 20 different jurisdictions, with one of the most notable contests being the Baringo senatorial race. This seat fell vacant following the death of Senator William Cheptumo on February 16, 2025.

At the constituency level, polls will take place in Kasipul, Malava, Banissa, Mbeere North, Magarini, and Ugunja constituencies. These by-elections will fill positions left vacant after the deaths of leaders such as Charles Ong’ondo Were and Malulu Injendi, who both passed away earlier this year.

The largest number of vacancies will be in the Member of County Assembly (MCA) category, with 17 wards set for fresh polls. These include:

  • Angata Nanyokie Ward in Samburu County
  • Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward in Nandi County
  • Chewani Ward in Tana River County
  • Fafi Ward in Garissa County
  • Kariobangi North Ward in Nairobi City County
  • Kisa East Ward in Kakamega County
  • Kabuchai/Chwele Ward in Bungoma County
  • Metkei Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County
  • Mumbuni North Ward in Machakos County
  • Narok Town Ward in Narok County
  • Purko Ward in Kajiado County
  • Tembelio Ward in Uasin Gishu County
  • Nyansiongo Ward, Nyamaiya Ward, and Ekerenyo Ward in Nyamira County
  • Lake Zone Ward and Nanaam Ward in Turkana County

With the nomination process now officially open, UDA has urged all qualified and interested candidates to act early, ensure all requirements are met, and prepare for a competitive race ahead of the November by-elections.
