Gachagua Set to Return on August 21 as DCP Claims Plot to Divert and Harm Him
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has officially confirmed that its leader, Rigathi Gachagua, will be returning to Kenya on Thursday, August 21. The announcement was made through a strongly worded press release issued on Thursday, August 14.
However, the party has raised serious concerns about what it describes as a dangerous plan to interfere with Gachagua’s return.
According to the DCP statement, intelligence gathered by the party indicates that there is a plot to divert the former Deputy President’s flight and possibly eliminate him once he lands back in the country after his extended visit to the United States.
The party claims that the plan allegedly involves poisoning him in a quiet and gradual manner—similar to what they described as the slow and cruel method that was used to harm the late Kenneth Matiba while he was in State custody.
In the statement, DCP claimed that powerful leaders have organised a plan to abduct Gachagua as soon as he arrives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The party alleges that he would then be intimidated, harassed, possibly beaten, and placed under house arrest.
They believe those behind the plot want to remove him from the political scene and isolate him from his supporters.
“They want to silence both his voice and his physical presence. But let everyone understand this clearly: if they touch even a finger on him, the entire country will come to a standstill,” the party warned in a part of the statement.
In addition, the party has pointed fingers directly at Nelson Koech, the Chairperson of the National Assembly Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee.
DCP accused Koech of being part of the plan to divert Gachagua’s flight to either Mombasa or Kisumu International Airport.
They claim the aim of diverting the plane is to prevent Gachagua from addressing crowds of supporters who are expected to gather in Nairobi to welcome him home.
“Nelson Koech has revealed another carefully planned provocation: a move to redirect His Excellency Gachagua’s flight so that he cannot deliver the powerful address that millions of Kenyans are waiting to hear,” the party added.
Despite all these alarming allegations, the DCP has firmly stated that none of these threats will stop Gachagua from returning to the country on the announced date. The party remains confident that he will arrive safely and proceed with his activities as planned.
DCP has also issued a call to action, urging all supporters in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa to show up in massive numbers to welcome their leader back home.
They emphasized that Gachagua has been away in the United States for nearly two months, and they want his return to be marked with a huge show of support.
Earlier on Thursday, the party had also revealed that Gachagua had decided to shorten his trip abroad in order to personally lead by-election campaigns for DCP candidates in several contested seats across the country.
By releasing this detailed statement, the party intends to alert the public about the alleged threats and at the same time mobilize strong support ahead of the leader’s arrival.
