Finally CS Murkomen Breaks Silence on Gachagua Arriving from America, Issues Fresh Orders to Police. Watch Out

Murkomen Sends Warning to Gachagua Ahead of Return from US, Issues Strict Orders to Police

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly warned politicians—including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua—against causing any disturbances during the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final match.

While addressing the press in Murang’a on Tuesday, August 19, Murkomen said the National Police Service would increase security measures to ensure there are no interruptions when Harambee Stars play Madagascar at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.

Murkomen praised the efforts of the police for securing the stadium during the previous match and assured Kenyans that similar arrangements are in place for the upcoming game.

He emphasized that the government would comply with the rules of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and promised that all necessary measures would be enforced to ensure a smooth and peaceful matchday experience.

“I want to appreciate the National Police Service for their great work in keeping Kasarani secure on Sunday. They ensured we followed CAF rules. As we prepare for a big match on Friday, I want to assure the people of Kenya that we will do the same again,” Murkomen said.

He also warned politicians—both those currently in the country and those arriving from abroad—that any interference or political activity during the match will not be tolerated. He stressed the need for unity and peace as Kenyans rally behind the national team.

“Any form of interference from political leaders, whether they are already here or coming in, will not be tolerated on that day.

We want peace in the country,” Murkomen warned firmly. He encouraged Kenyans to continue supporting Harambee Stars while following the rules and guidelines set by CAF, saying this would ensure the match proceeds smoothly and peacefully.

Meanwhile, Rigathi Gachagua, who is the leader of the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP), is expected to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, August 21, after completing his trip to the United States.

According to a statement released on Monday, August 18, by DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, thousands of supporters are expected to gather at the airport from 8 a.m. to welcome Gachagua.

Malala further mentioned that Gachagua would then lead what he called “a mother of all peaceful processions” from JKIA to the Nairobi CBD, before heading to Kamukunji Grounds to address the public during a rally.

Malala noted that they had already informed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, about the planned procession and expected the police to cooperate by providing security instead of interrupting the gathering.

In the same statement, Malala warned the government against arresting Gachagua soon after his return, saying such an action could spark protests and disrupt the ongoing CHAN tournament, especially the Harambee Stars match scheduled for Friday.

“If you arrest Rigathi Gachagua immediately after he returns, you will cause demonstrations in the country. And that will affect Friday’s Harambee Stars match because if Gachagua is arrested, I doubt the match will go on smoothly,” Malala warned.

Murkomen has made it clear that security agencies will not allow politics to disrupt national events and sports activities.

His statement sets the stage for a tense political atmosphere ahead of Gachagua’s return, even as Kenyans remain hopeful for peace and a successful football tournament.
