Popular Gengetone musician Shalkido has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being involved in a serious motorcycle accident along Thika Road early Sunday morning, October 5.
The news was first shared by media personality and comedian Oga Obinna, who revealed he was among the last people to see Shalkido before the crash.
Timeline of Events
Preliminary reports suggest the accident happened around 4 a.m., shortly after Shalkido performed briefly at a nightlife venue in Thika. Obinna explained that they encountered Shalkido on the road just as they were heading back to Nairobi.
“When we were leaving, we lost him at some point. We met at the merging road to Thika. He was on his bike. I fueled his bike, and we proceeded. This was 4 a.m.,” Obinna recalled.
He added that they rode together until they passed Kenyatta University.
“He waved at us as he took an exit, and we proceeded with our journey.”
Critical Condition
Only a few hours after parting ways, Obinna received word that the artist had been rushed to hospital with severe head injuries. Witnesses reported that blood was seen coming from his ears—an indication of the seriousness of the impact.
Shalkido was taken to a nearby facility and later admitted to the ICU for emergency care. His motorcycle has since been impounded at a local police station as investigations into the crash begin.
Recent Comeback and Personal Struggles
The accident comes just months after the musician resurfaced in the public eye, this time for reasons unrelated to music. Shalkido, known for hits like Ngunde Ngurume, had opened up about his financial and personal struggles, sharing photos and videos that highlighted the challenges he was facing.
One of his appeals to the public was for help acquiring a motorbike so he could start a boda boda business to support himself.
His story caught the attention of comedian Eric Omondi, who used his Sisi kwa Sisi initiative to rally support from Kenyans online and raise money to buy him a new motorcycle.
That same motorcycle is believed to be the one involved in Sunday’s accident.
What’s Next
As of now, Shalkido remains in critical condition in ICU as family, friends, fans, and fellow artists await updates on his recovery. Police are expected to release more details after conducting a full investigation into the incident.
