Residents of Juja, Kiambu County, are mourning the painful death of a young woman, Susan Nyambura, who tragically died in a road accident shortly after helping Mama Gift, a struggling mother caring for her sick child.
Susan, a dedicated and hardworking mother of two, was among the thousands of TikTok users who came together to support Mama Gift, a woman whose story had touched the hearts of many Kenyans online.
A Day of Kindness Turns Into Tragedy
According to reports, Susan had traveled to Embu County to join other well-wishers who were visiting Mama Gift, a woman who has been sharing the struggles of raising her ailing child suffering from cerebral palsy and other health complications.
Mama Gift’s situation drew national attention after she revealed that her child’s father had abandoned them, leaving her to shoulder the emotional and financial burden alone.
When Kenyans on TikTok learned of her heartbreaking story, they united to help her with donations, food, and emotional support.
Among those who responded was Susan, who was deeply moved by Mama Gift’s courage and resilience. Sadly, what began as a noble mission to help a fellow mother ended in sorrow.
The Fatal Journey Home
After the charitable visit, Susan took a motorbike (boda boda) back home, unaware it would be her last ride. Tragically, she was involved in a grisly road accident that claimed her life.
The rider who was carrying her sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) fighting for his life.
“It’s heartbreaking that Susan, a kind and selfless woman who sacrificed her time to help Mama Gift, didn’t make it back home,” wrote Kerreh SZn on Facebook. “She has left behind two young daughters who depended on her love and care.”
Remembering Susan Nyambura
Many who knew Susan have described her as a humble, hardworking, and loving mother who always put her children first.
Content creator Kaleb Owiro, who was also part of the group that went to support Mama Gift, confirmed the heartbreaking news and paid tribute to his late friend.
“She lost her leg from the hip downward during the crash and bled to her last breath as emergency responders tried to save her,” Kaleb shared emotionally. “I have met many good people in this life, but Susan was exceptional.
She worked tirelessly to give her two girls a decent life. I never thought I would one day write ‘Rest in Peace’ under her photo.”
Susan leaves behind two young daughters — Leticiah Wambui (4 years old) and Livya Favour Muthoni (2 and a half years old) — who are now left without their loving mother.
An Outpouring of Sympathy and Calls for Support
The tragic news has sparked an outpouring of grief and compassion across social media, with many Kenyans calling for the establishment of a trust fund to support Susan’s children.
Jane Akinyi commented, “The team that organized Mama Gift’s visit should consider setting up an education fund for Susan’s kids through her sister, who can act as their guardian.
She gave her time and even her life trying to help another mother — we can honor her by helping her children.”
Joanne Moraa Monari, a close friend of Susan, shared her pain, saying, “She was full of joy and couldn’t wait for the trip. She worked for me as a daybug for one year and loved my kids like her own. I can’t believe she’s gone.”
Other Kenyans also expressed their condolences, emphasizing the need for safer roads and responsible riding.
- Adrian Mbogo George wrote, “Poleni sana (My condolences).”
- EV Ben Oricho urged, “Boda boda riders, please slow down. Training is free, and life is precious — yours and your passenger’s.”
- Mary Wanjiru added, “I described her as hardworking and jovial in another post before even seeing this one. She spread joy and positive energy wherever she went. May her soul rest in peace.”
- Caroline Mungai reflected, “Life is fragile. This tragedy reminds us to live right and be ready to go home to our Creator any day.”
