Breaking: Jubilee Party Appoints Matiang’i as Deputy Party Leader

Jubilee Party Appoints Fred Matiang’i as Deputy Party Leader and 2027 Presidential Candidate

The Jubilee Party has officially appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader.

The announcement was made following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on October 30, 2025. During the same meeting, the party also endorsed him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

This decision follows earlier remarks by Jubilee’s Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, who had revealed that the party would throw its full support behind Matiang’i in his bid for the presidency.

Speaking after the NEC meeting—which was chaired virtually by former President Uhuru Kenyatta—Kioni confirmed that the party had formally accepted Dr. Matiang’i’s application to contest for the presidency under the Jubilee Party ticket.

“We have officially received and approved Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s request to run for president on our party’s ticket. The NEC has unanimously agreed that he will be the one to carry our flag,” Kioni stated. “In addition, we have appointed Dr. Matiang’i as the Deputy Party Leader, effective immediately,” he added.

Beyond endorsing Matiang’i’s leadership, the NEC meeting also focused on the party’s long-term strategy and internal reorganization.

The members discussed plans to strengthen Jubilee’s grassroots presence by reopening regional branches, mobilizing members, and recruiting new supporters across the country. The goal, they said, is to revive the party’s influence and reconnect with its original base.

Several other leadership positions within the party were also filled. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was appointed as the party’s Whip in the National Assembly, while Senator James Lomenen was named the new Whip in the Senate. These changes are part of Jubilee’s broader effort to rebuild its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

The latest developments follow Jubilee’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on September 26, where both Uhuru Kenyatta and Fred Matiang’i were present.

During the event, Matiang’i’s growing role in the party was evident, signaling his readiness to take over as the official flagbearer—a move that had been anticipated for months.

Sources within the party indicate that former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been quietly mentoring Matiang’i to restore Jubilee’s former strength and leadership ahead of the next general election.

The former CS, who has never held an elective position before, reportedly resigned from his role at the World Bank’s Latin America office to fully dedicate himself to his political ambitions.

By stepping into active politics, Matiang’i aims to rebrand Jubilee as a strong opposition force and position himself as a leading contender in the race for Kenya’s top seat in 2027.
