Mosiria’s Rescue Story Ends in Tragedy as Woman Dies in Hospital

A touching story that began with an act of kindness by Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has sadly ended in tragedy. On October 7, Mosiria had rescued a woman who was found lying unconscious along a busy street in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), where she had reportedly been for two days without anyone stepping forward to help her.

At the time, Mosiria personally responded to the distress call and, together with the Nairobi County Emergency and Ambulance team from the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), rushed the woman to the hospital for urgent medical attention. His quick action drew public attention and praise, as many were moved by his compassion.

However, weeks after the rescue, Mosiria took to social media late Tuesday evening to share the heartbreaking update that the woman had passed away while still undergoing treatment.

“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of the lady we rescued from the streets of the CBD, where she had been lying unconscious for two days without any assistance,”

Mosiria wrote. “Together with our county ambulance team, we took her to the hospital for treatment. When we rescued her, our officers reached out to her family, but unfortunately, her relative in the city seemed unconcerned.”

According to Mosiria, the woman’s family from her rural home later took charge of her situation, arranging further medical care for her. Sadly, despite their efforts, she did not survive.

“Today, I received a message from one of her family members confirming that she passed away while still receiving treatment,” Mosiria revealed with deep regret.

The tragic update comes just weeks after the officer had shared the initial rescue story, expressing disbelief that so many people had walked past the unconscious woman for two days without trying to help. He had used the incident to remind Kenyans about the importance of empathy and community responsibility.

“It was a heartbreaking sight — a reminder of how far we have drifted from our sense of humanity,” Mosiria said in his earlier statement. “Sometimes I wonder how, in a country as warm and caring as Kenya, someone can suffer or even die in public as people look on.

Where did our compassion go? What happened to the upendo (love) and uzalendo (patriotism) that once defined us?”

Mosiria’s remarks now carry even more weight, as the woman’s passing serves as a painful reminder of the consequences of public neglect. Her story has sparked an emotional discussion among Kenyans about the need to look out for one another, especially in times of distress.

Many social media users have since expressed sorrow over the woman’s death while commending Mosiria for his humanity and swift response. The tragedy has once again highlighted the importance of empathy, urging citizens not to turn a blind eye when someone is in need.
