Finally Gachagua Reveals Why he Never Went to Bondo to Mourn Raila Odinga Like Kalonzo!

Gachagua Claims There Was a Plot to Kill Him During Raila Odinga’s State Funeral

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made serious allegations, claiming that he skipped both the State Funeral service and the burial of Raila Odinga after receiving intelligence that a plan had been hatched to assassinate him.

Gachagua explained that although he fully intended to attend the ceremony at Nyayo Stadium and later travel to Bondo for the burial, he was warned about a dangerous scheme that forced him to stay away.

Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV on Sunday, November 16, Gachagua said that before the events, he was informed that some senior government officials had organized a plot that involved police officers disguised as civilians.

According to him, these officers were meant to attack him at Nyayo Stadium and later at the burial site in Bondo, with the intention of making it appear as though the people of the Nyanza region were responsible.

Gachagua said he was prepared to attend the State Funeral until he was privately advised by certain police officers not to go.

“I was ready to go to the national stadium, but some officers told me not to attend because the government had planned to use some of their own disguised officers to attack me and make it look like Nyanza residents were behind it. After hearing that, I decided I could not risk my life,” Gachagua stated.

He further claimed that a senior Ministry of Interior official attempted to set up a similar plan after he announced his intention to travel to Bondo for the burial.

“When I said I would go to Bondo, the same official had arranged a plan where I would be attacked and killed to spark hatred between our communities. I understand President Ruto’s administration very well,” he added.

Despite these alleged threats, Gachagua revealed that he still plans to visit Raila Odinga’s home in Bondo in the first week of December. He insisted that he wants to personally pay his last respects to the former Prime Minister and show goodwill to the family and the community.

He noted that he has already spoken with Raila’s family, including Winnie Odinga, and elders from the Mount Kenya region. Both sides have allegedly given him the green light for the visit once the upcoming by-elections are completed.

Gachagua said he will lead a team consisting of elders, church leaders, and community members from Mount Kenya. Their mission, he said, will go beyond offering condolences — they hope to strengthen relations between the Mount Kenya and Nyanza regions.

“We were never friends with Raila, and we often disagreed politically, but it was never a personal fight. Our elders have encouraged me to build new friendships with Raila’s community, and that is why I will lead the delegation to Bondo,” Gachagua said.

He added that he has already coordinated with Raila’s daughter, Winnie Odinga.
“I asked them to allow me time to finish the Mbeere by-election and then give me a date during the first week of December so I can visit with a full delegation from our region.

We want to say sorry to the family and also seek a deeper relationship with our brothers in the Nyanza region,” he explained.

Gachagua also criticized President William Ruto and other top government officials over their remarks at Raila’s burial.

He accused them of pretending to admire and love Raila despite, according to him, knowing that they were being dishonest.

He said this was another reason he chose not to attend the burial.
“The lies being told there were too much. Ruto and other officials claimed they admired Raila, yet they did not.

The only person who spoke the truth was Kalonzo, because he had worked closely with Raila for 15 years,” Gachagua said.

Recognizing Raila Odinga’s influence and impact on Kenya’s political space, Gachagua added that he is now working to grow his DCP party and raise it to the same level of national influence that Raila’s ODM party achieved over the years.
