Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has strongly urged Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to step away from politics, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful development to the Ukambani region despite serving in public office for more than four decades.
Speaking during a Kamba community resource mobilization event in Kilifi County on 29th November 2025, where residents were raising funds to buy a community bus, Mutua—who also leads the Maendeleo Chap Chap party—criticized Kalonzo’s leadership record.
Mutua claimed that Kalonzo had held senior government positions for over 40 years, yet the region still struggles with basic infrastructure and essential services. He stated that even areas close to Kalonzo’s home in Tseikuru have not seen significant progress.
“From Mwingi all the way to Kalonzo’s home in Tseikuru, he has been in government for 40 years, but there is no proper road to his home; there is no electricity at his home; there is no reliable water supply,” Mutua said.
The CS accused Kalonzo of maintaining what he called “politics of poverty,” arguing that the Wiper boss has not uplifted his community.
Mutua further insisted that Kalonzo’s influence in the region has come to an end. He declared that a new political push was beginning—one aimed at changing leadership and giving the Kamba region a fresh direction focused on development rather than personality politics.
“We want to notify Kalonzo Musyoka that a new revolution has started. Kalonzo must give way so that we can drive development-focused politics in Ukambani,” he added.
Mutua is part of the Kenya Kwanza team that has been actively challenging Kalonzo’s grip on Ukambani politics.
Despite this push, the Wiper party remains the dominant political force in the region, with 14 Members of Parliament, 3 governors, and more than 60 elected MCAs across the three Ukambani counties.
This dominance was once again seen in the 27th November 2025 by-election in Mumbuni North Ward, where Wiper candidate Antony Kisoi secured victory with 3,849 votes.
He defeated Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Harrison Wambua, who garnered 2,766 votes. The win strengthened Wiper’s position and dealt another blow to Mutua’s efforts to weaken Kalonzo’s influence.
This renewed political clash signals heightened rivalry in the Ukambani region as leaders position themselves ahead of upcoming national political battles.
