KDF Unveils New Plan to Keep Injured Soldiers in Service

KDF Introduces New Plan to Keep Injured Soldiers Serving

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), working together with the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), has launched a new rehabilitation programme aimed at helping soldiers who are injured while on duty continue serving the nation.

The initiative was officially unveiled during the KISE graduation ceremony on Friday, December 5, 2025.

During the event, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Charles Kahariri—represented by Brigadier Hussein Amin—highlighted that the days when injured soldiers or officers living with disabilities were automatically removed from service are now behind.

He made it clear that the KDF is changing its approach to ensure that every injured officer receives consistent support and is given a chance to continue contributing in roles that match their abilities.

Kahariri noted that the new programme is not just about rehabilitation but about creating an inclusive environment within the military.

The training is designed to boost skills, strengthen recovery efforts, and support soldiers of all abilities, marking a major shift in how KDF handles cases of injury or disability among its personnel.

He explained that the goal is to help injured officers regain as much functionality as possible so they can continue serving in positions that suit their physical condition.

Instead of ending their military careers, the programme will guide them into roles where they can still be productive and valued.

The collaboration between KDF and KISE will deal with different areas of recovery, including medical rehabilitation, mobility assistance, psychological support, and specialised training crafted to meet the needs of each injured service member.

This partnership is expected to significantly improve KDF’s ability to reintegrate wounded soldiers into active duty or alternative assignments across the institution.

Kahariri praised the partnership, saying it reflects KDF’s growing commitment to uplift officers with special needs and support their successful reintegration into service.

He added that inclusivity will be a key part of KDF’s human resource strategy going forward, ensuring that no officer is left behind because of physical limitations.

During the graduation ceremony, a total of 1,835 students received certificates and diplomas. Among them were six KDF soldiers living with different special needs, further demonstrating the military’s ongoing commitment to supporting all its members.
