Duale Slams Gachagua Over Nairobi Politics Remarks

Duale Criticizes Gachagua Over Remarks on Nairobi Politics

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for saying that politicians from the Mount Kenya Region should take charge of Nairobi’s political scene after the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking on Sunday, December 7, during a public event, Duale said Gachagua must acknowledge and respect the role that all communities have played in shaping Nairobi’s social, cultural, and economic identity.

He noted that Nairobi has grown because of the unity and hard work of people from different backgrounds, not because of one particular group.

Duale accused Gachagua of making political statements meant to create unnecessary tension and division between the Mount Kenya community and other groups that have coexisted peacefully in the capital for decades.

He emphasized that Nairobi has always been a city built on cooperation and mutual benefit.

“I really want the former Deputy President to respect other communities. The Kikuyu community is one of our closest friends and key business partners, especially in Eastleigh.

The people who shop in Eastleigh malls, a large number of them are from the Mount Kenya Region,” Duale stated.

He added that if Gachagua wanted to push tribal politics, he should keep it to himself, because the country’s focus is on unity and building a Kenya where everyone feels included.

Duale’s remarks came just hours after Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua dismissed claims that there was a supremacy battle within the opposition regarding political control in Nairobi County.

Gachagua maintained that the opposition side remains united and will continue supporting each other, especially in regions where certain parties have stronger political influence.

He said the opposition will rely heavily on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s experience to guide their political strategy in Nairobi.

He also invited leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to partner with the opposition coalition to unseat President William Ruto’s administration in 2027.

“In Nairobi, Wiper has always had a strong presence, and they have supported ODM many times. There is no reason for us to attack each other.

Where Wiper is strong, we will stand with Wiper. Where DCP is stronger, we will ask Wiper to support us,” Gachagua said.

He further explained that the goal is to create a political structure in Nairobi that reflects the diversity of the country. “We want Nairobi to represent the face of Kenya.

We don’t want ODM left out. We are relying on Kalonzo to organize things in Nairobi because he has the experience. That will be his main assignment,” he added.

Gachagua’s explanation followed reports that his party had already struck a deal to take over all major Nairobi seats in 2027, including the governor and senator positions. Kalonzo Musyoka later dismissed those reports as false political propaganda.
