President William Ruto has promised to sponsor two passionate football fans to travel to the United Kingdom so they can watch their favorite English Premier League teams play live.
The offer followed a light-hearted discussion that quickly attracted attention online, blending football passion, youth culture, and ongoing conversations about sports development in Kenya.
The promise came during an interaction with Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o. Their discussion initially focused on the progress of the new Talanta Stadium, which is nearing completion as Kenya prepares to co-host the upcoming AFCON 2027.
The President expressed confidence that the modern facility would significantly improve the country’s sporting infrastructure and help raise the standard of football experience for local fans.
As the conversation continued, comparisons were made between the new stadium and famous football grounds in England, including Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium.
The discussion then shifted to football loyalty, with Jalang’o suggesting that a well-known Manchester United supporter, Masagara, should be sponsored to travel abroad and finally experience a live match at his club’s home ground.
At first, the President, who openly supports Arsenal, appeared hesitant about sponsoring a fan of rival club Manchester United. However, he later agreed to the idea after proposing a condition — that an Arsenal supporter should also benefit from the opportunity.
The agreement eventually saw both Masagara and popular Arsenal content creator Usefulidioty selected for the trip.
According to the President, the two fans will receive business-class air tickets and full accommodation during their visit.
He explained that the experience would allow them to witness first-hand how world-class stadiums operate, something he believes will help Kenyans better appreciate the vision behind Talanta Stadium once it is fully operational.
The remarks were delivered in a relaxed tone, reflecting an effort to connect with football-loving youth and online audiences.
This is the second time in recent weeks that the Head of State has joined trending online conversations involving young content creators.
Earlier, he commented on the growing excitement surrounding viral personalities Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer, who are preparing to face each other in an amateur boxing match scheduled for April. The two gained popularity through social media banter that later turned into a real sporting event.
During that engagement, and again at the request of Jalang’o, the President pledged financial support of one million shillings for each contestant.
He also offered to sponsor tickets for up to 4,000 fans to attend the boxing event, further increasing public interest around the fight.
The match, organized by comedian and media personality Oga Obinna, has grown from an online challenge into one of the most talked-about amateur sporting events in the country.
Observers note that these engagements highlight a broader attempt by the President to engage with younger audiences through popular culture, sports, and social media trends.
By participating in conversations that resonate with online communities, the administration appears keen to build a more relatable image while promoting sports development and youth-focused initiatives.
