CSs Make Fresh Appointments to Military and Key Government Agencies

Several Cabinet Secretaries have announced new appointments and re-appointments to important state agencies and public institutions, in a move that has reshuffled leadership across different sectors of government.

The changes come nearly a year before the next General Elections and affect departments such as defence, sports and culture, agriculture, trade, education, energy, and even the judiciary.

Changes in the Defence Sector

The latest round of appointments was led by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, who confirmed the re-appointment of Lt. Col. (Rtd) Edward Cherop Kimosop. He will continue serving as a member of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans for another three-year term, beginning May 2, 2026.

According to an official notice issued under the Military Veterans Act, the Defence Council exercised its legal powers to extend his term.

The notice stated that under Section 10 (2) (c) of the Act, Lt. Col. (Rtd) Kimosop would remain in office for three more years. The Advisory Committee on Military Veterans plays an important role in addressing the welfare and interests of retired military officers and service members across the country.

Re-appointments at the Kenya Film Classification Board

In the creative and cultural sector, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya also made key changes. He re-appointed John Njogu Njoroge as the Chairperson of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

The board is responsible for regulating and classifying films and other audiovisual content in Kenya to ensure they meet national standards.

In addition to the chairperson’s re-appointment, several board members were also re-appointed for new three-year terms effective February 24.

These include John Muigai Nyururu, Hariety Namwezi Zitah, Stephanie Kamene Maseki, Kipruto Kiptoo, John Osimbo, Grace Mwendwa Munjuri, and Raphael Ekadeli Loperito. Their continued service is expected to provide stability and consistency in the management of the board’s operations.

Kenya Dairy Board Gets Leadership Boost

In the agriculture sector, Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe made adjustments at the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB). He re-appointed Gabriel Pulei as a member of the board for another three-year term starting February 20 this year.

The Kenya Dairy Board is tasked with regulating and developing the dairy industry, which is one of the most important agricultural sectors in the country. By extending Pulei’s term, the ministry aims to ensure continuity in policies and programs that support dairy farmers and processors nationwide.

Trade Ministry Re-Appointment

In the trade docket, Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui re-appointed Francis Mugo as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Scrap Metal Council for a further three-year term.

The Scrap Metal Council plays a key role in regulating the scrap metal industry, which has in the past faced concerns related to vandalism of public infrastructure. The re-appointment is seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight and restore order in the sector.

New Appointments in the Education Sector

The education sector also experienced notable changes. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed James Okebiro Mageto and Ethel Nakhumicha Githirwa to serve on the Council of Kiambu National Polytechnic for three years.

In addition, Ogamba appointed Pauline M. Mallo Nagila and Julius Mokogi to the Council of Kabete National Polytechnic. At the same time, Gilbert Kiptanui Nyongi was re-appointed as a member of the Kabete National Polytechnic Council for another three-year term.

National polytechnics play a major role in technical and vocational training, equipping young people with practical skills needed in the job market. These appointments are expected to strengthen governance and management in the institutions.

Energy Sector Board Changes

In the energy sector, Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi re-appointed Mark Nderitu Muturi, Sammy Choge, and Peter Kenneth Kimani as members of the Board of Directors of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).

REREC is responsible for expanding electricity access in rural areas and promoting renewable energy projects across the country. The re-appointments are aimed at ensuring continuity in ongoing electrification programs that are crucial for economic growth and development.

Judicial Service Commission Appointment

Separately, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), chaired by Chief Justice Martha Koome, appointed Stephen Odhiambo Anditi as the Chairperson of the Public Private Partnerships Petition Committee. Four other members were also appointed to serve on the committee for a three-year term.

The committee is responsible for handling petitions and disputes related to public-private partnership projects, which are increasingly being used to finance major infrastructure developments.

New Appointments in Uasin Gishu County

At the county level, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii announced fresh appointments to the Board of the City of Eldoret.

The governor appointed Elzeba Busienei as the Eldoret City Manager. In addition, several individuals were named as members of the city board.

They include Edward Sawe, Sammy Kimutai Bor, Alice Cheptoo Kositany, David Maizs, Ruth Limo, Hilda Jeruto Kibet, Titus Kipkemboi Yegoh, David Kipsang Nyolmo, Julie Jemutai Barmasai, Edith Chepkorir Koske, and David Mburu Kamau.

These appointments are expected to strengthen leadership and improve service delivery within Eldoret City, which continues to grow as a key urban and economic hub in the region.

Overall, the latest appointments and re-appointments reflect ongoing efforts by various ministries and government bodies to reorganize leadership structures and maintain continuity in public institutions ahead of the next General Elections.
