Radio Citizen Presenter Tina Ogal Joins ODM, Declares Bid for Embakasi East Seat

Veteran Royal Media Services (RMS) radio presenter Tina Ogal has officially joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Elections, marking a major shift from media into active politics.

Her entry into the political arena has already attracted attention, especially because she is a well-known voice on Radio Citizen and has built a strong following over the years.

Ogal was among several new political aspirants who were formally welcomed into the party on Tuesday, April 28, during a recruitment event that was presided over by ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo.

The event was part of ODM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence across the country by attracting new candidates from different professional backgrounds, including media, business, and community leadership.

During the gathering, Tina Ogal made her political ambitions clear by declaring interest in contesting the Embakasi East parliamentary seat, a constituency currently represented by MP Babu Owino.

Her announcement immediately sparked political conversation, as Embakasi East is widely considered one of the most competitive and politically active constituencies in Nairobi.

The party confirmed her entry, noting: “Veteran radio presenter Tina Ogal joined the party and expressed interest in the Embakasi East Parliamentary seat.”

With this move, Ogal now joins a growing list of professionals transitioning into politics as the race toward 2027 gradually gains momentum across the country.

Tina Ogal is a seasoned journalist with more than 20 years of experience in the media industry. She joined Royal Media Services in 2004 and has since built a strong reputation as one of the most recognizable voices on Radio Citizen.

Over the years, she has become widely respected for her clear communication style, strong command of the Swahili language, and her ability to connect with listeners through engaging and relatable conversations.

Her professionalism and dedication in broadcasting also earned her career growth within RMS, where she once served as Acting Head of Radio after Jeridah Andayi left the organization to pursue other opportunities.

This leadership role further strengthened her profile as one of the senior figures in Kenyan radio journalism.

Alongside Tina Ogal, ODM also welcomed other aspiring leaders into the party. Among them is Bayamin Mahat, who declared interest in the Waberi Ward seat in Garissa County, and Bobby Onunga, who is eyeing the Embakasi Ward position in Nairobi.

Their inclusion reflects ODM’s broader recruitment strategy aimed at expanding its grassroots presence and bringing in new energy ahead of the next election cycle.

ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo emphasized that the party remains committed to opening up political space for more Kenyans.

She noted that ODM is focused on encouraging professionals, youth, and community leaders to actively participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic processes.

“We are committed to opening a democratic space that will encourage as many people as possible to join the party,” Omanyo stated, reaffirming ODM’s long-term plan to build a strong and diverse political base across Kenya.

With Tina Ogal’s entry into politics, the Embakasi East race is expected to become even more competitive, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest as political activities continue to build ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
