Willis Raburu Opens Up About Big Move to Run for Kisumu Senator, Align with ODM’s Linda Mwananchi

Willis Raburu has publicly confirmed that he is planning to contest for the Kisumu Senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, marking a major shift from his long career in media into active politics.

In an exclusive conversation with Newshub.co.ke, he explained that his decision is strongly driven by a desire to contribute to solving long-standing development challenges affecting Kisumu County.

He emphasized that his move is not just political ambition, but a personal mission to bring change and improve service delivery for the people.

Raburu, who became widely known through his work as a prime-time news anchor at Citizen TV before transitioning into entertainment and digital media, revealed that his growing involvement in political circles played a role in shaping his decision.

His meeting with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) influential figures, including members aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement and political leader James Orengo, further brought his intentions into the public spotlight.

He raised important questions about timing and motivation, explaining that many people wonder why he would leave a successful and stable media career to enter politics at this stage.

According to him, the answer lies in a deep personal conviction that the time is right to serve the public in a more direct and impactful way. He believes that leadership requires not only visibility but also responsibility, and he now feels ready to take that step.

At the same time, attention has also turned to other media personalities who may be considering similar political paths. His close friend and fellow Citizen TV journalist Trevor Ombija has reportedly hinted at a possible political bid as well, particularly for the Nyakach parliamentary seat in the same 2027 election cycle.

Reports suggest that if he proceeds, he would be contesting against current leaders as political reshuffles continue to shape Kisumu County’s leadership landscape. A viral video showing Ombija in prayer has further fueled speculation about his readiness to enter politics.

In related political discussions within ODM, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna recently shared controversial views about the 2027 presidential race. He claimed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga believed ODM had a strong chance of defeating President William Ruto if the party maintained its strong voter base from the 2022 elections.

Sifuna also argued that shifts in political support, especially in regions like Mt Kenya, could significantly affect the outcome of the election. He further defended his association with the “wantam” faction, insisting that ODM has not officially declared support for Ruto’s re-election bid.

While political developments continue to unfold, another unrelated but widely discussed human-interest story has captured public attention. A former taxi driver from Murang’a, Peter Irungu, openly shared how a simple mistake involving an M-Pesa transfer changed his life drastically.

He was supposed to receive KSh 800 for a trip from Murang’a to Sagana, but instead, a client mistakenly sent him KSh 40,000.

Instead of reporting the error or returning the money, Irungu admitted that he used it and then avoided the client’s calls. This decision eventually led to serious consequences, including losing his job, his family, and later spending time in prison.

He described his prison experience as extremely difficult, saying that two years felt like a lifetime. He also reflected on how the mistake caused long-term damage to his personal and professional life.

Irungu’s story is not isolated. Another case involved Leonard Oyiri, who also received money sent in error after a customer mistakenly transferred KSh 130,000 instead of KSh 13,000. He used the funds for personal expenses such as school fees and land payments.

However, the situation later became problematic, showing how financial mistakes, even unintentional ones, can lead to serious legal and moral consequences.

Alongside these real-life stories, a fictional workplace narrative has also gained attention for its strong moral message. In the story, a marketing manager named Deborah is on the verge of receiving a long-awaited promotion.

She is invited by her boss, Mr. Thompson, to a luxurious restaurant where she is unexpectedly asked to pay a bill of KSh 40,000 as a “test of loyalty” to the company. Although shocked and uncomfortable, she pays the bill reluctantly, realizing she is being manipulated.

The situation becomes even more troubling when her boss later presents her with financial documents that contain irregular and suspicious figures. He pressures her to approve them, indirectly asking her to participate in unethical and illegal financial manipulation.

Deborah refuses, despite threats that her career could be destroyed if she does not comply.

Instead of giving in, she begins carefully collecting evidence. She saves emails, records conversations, and documents every instance of misconduct. Over time, she uncovers a larger pattern of embezzlement involving her boss, including hidden offshore accounts and years of financial fraud.

She anonymously reports the issue to the company’s internal audit department and later presents subtle concerns to the board. This triggers a full investigation that eventually exposes Mr. Thompson’s corruption. As a result, he is removed from his position and escorted out of the company.

The recovered stolen funds are later used for employee bonuses and company development projects. Surprisingly, Deborah is offered her boss’s position due to her integrity and courage.

However, she declines the promotion and instead recommends a more deserving colleague, David, who had been overlooked for years despite his talent and dedication.

With the bonus she receives, Deborah starts her own consultancy firm focused on helping organizations detect and prevent financial fraud.

Her experience with corruption becomes the foundation of her new career, turning a negative workplace experience into a meaningful professional mission.

In the end, her story emphasizes integrity, courage, and ethical leadership, showing that success is not only about promotions or power but also about doing what is right and using experience to help others avoid similar challenges.
