Kenya Power Announces Planned Power Interruptions in Four Counties on Monday, May 4

Kenyans in selected parts of Nairobi, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, and Kirinyaga counties will experience temporary electricity interruptions on Monday, May 4, following a planned maintenance exercise by the power utility company.

In a public notice, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) explained that the shutdown is necessary to allow technical teams to carry out system maintenance and upgrade power lines.

The exercise is part of routine network improvement works aimed at improving reliability and reducing future outages.

According to the company, the interruptions will last for up to eight hours, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in most of the affected areas and ending in the evening.

KPLC also advised customers to plan accordingly and treat all electrical lines as live during the maintenance period for safety reasons.

The utility added that residents can always check updated schedules through their official platforms, including the provided online link for real-time outage information.

Nairobi County

In Nairobi County, residents along Kingara Road and nearby areas will be affected. The outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The specific locations include Kingara Road, Kingara Close, and surrounding customers connected to the same power line.

Businesses and households in these areas are expected to experience temporary disruption during the maintenance window.

Kericho County

Parts of Litein Town in Kericho County will also face a planned power shutdown from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The affected areas include Kapsenetwet, Chemoiben, Kabartegan, Kapchinchiywet School, Botoni Village, and the area around former PC Cheluget, along with nearby customers.

Residents in these locations should expect a full-day interruption as engineers work on the network.

Uasin Gishu County

In Uasin Gishu County, the maintenance will affect Kamoret and Sambut areas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The specific zones include Kamoret, Kamagut, Sambut, Sunrise, and surrounding neighborhoods.

The interruption is expected to impact both residential users and small businesses relying on electricity during the day.

Kirinyaga County

In Kirinyaga County, the outage will take place in Karaini and Old Kangaita areas between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Affected locations include Karaini Market, Kamuruana Village, Mutuma Block, Rutui TBC, Kangaita Kwa Eliud, Old Kangaita Market, Kangaita Primary School, Kangaita Tea Factory, and adjacent areas.

Residents in all affected counties are advised to prepare in advance by charging devices, planning business operations accordingly, and taking necessary precautions during the maintenance period.

KPLC emphasized that the work is essential for improving the stability and efficiency of the national power distribution network.
