The 2024 Paris Olympics organizers have distributed nearly 300,000 condoms to athletes at the Olympic Village as part of their welcome packages.
This initiative, which began in the 1980s during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, continues to ensure safe practices among athletes.
The summer games, which have already commenced, will officially be flagged off on Friday, July 26, 2024.
In addition to condoms, the welcome packages included water bottles, toiletries, bags, and phones.
The practice of distributing condoms at the Olympics started at the 1988 Seoul Games and has continued since, with the 2016 Rio Olympics seeing 450,000 condoms distributed and 150,000 at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, despite intimacy restrictions due to COVID-19.
Michaud Laurent, Director of the Olympic Village, stated that they are working with French health authorities to ensure the safety of all participants.
The Olympic Village, located in Saint-Denis, spans 134 acres and offers state-of-the-art amenities for over 14,000 athletes and officials.
