“OCS NJOO HAPA!” — Murkomen Sparks Attention After Tough Stand on Police Discipline
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has once again found himself at the center of public discussion after online clips and political conversations linked him to a dramatic confrontation involving a police station commander, commonly referred to as an OCS.
The phrase “OCS njoo hapa!” has gone viral across social media platforms, with many Kenyans sharing videos and reactions suggesting that the Interior CS nearly fired an officer publicly during a security engagement.
However, available reports do not clearly confirm that Murkomen recently dismissed or threatened to dismiss an OCS live on camera.
Recent statements from Murkomen show that the CS has maintained a hard-line stance on police accountability and discipline within the National Police Service.
In several public addresses, he has demanded professionalism from officers while also defending law enforcement agencies against attacks from criminal gangs and violent protesters.
In one of the latest security briefings, Murkomen warned that civilians attacking police officers would face tough action from the government.
He directed police leadership to ensure law and order is maintained across the country amid increasing security concerns and unrest in some regions.
The online debate intensified after another separate incident involving an OCS surfaced months earlier during a public security forum in Migori County.
Reports indicated that Murkomen was shocked after an OCS allegedly appeared intoxicated during an official meeting attended by senior security officials. According to reports, the CS openly questioned the officer’s condition before investigations and disciplinary procedures were launched.
Political commentators and social media users are now connecting these incidents with the trending “OCS njoo hapa” slogan, which has become symbolic of senior leaders publicly confronting security officers over misconduct or incompetence.
At the same time, Murkomen has continued to face pressure over Kenya’s growing insecurity challenges, gang activities, and policing concerns.
Opposition leaders and civil society groups have accused the government of failing to fully address police brutality and rising criminal activities in parts of the country.
Despite the online claims, no verified government communication has confirmed that Murkomen recently fired an OCS during a live public event.
Much of the viral content circulating online appears to be based on edited clips, recycled footage, or politically charged commentary shared on TikTok, Facebook, and X.
