A shocking incident unfolded in the town of Gilgil when an enraged hippopotamus attacked and destroyed a boda boda motorcycle.

What did the hippo do to the boda boda?

The harrowing event was captured on video and shared widely on social media, sparking widespread concern.

The video, shared by Kenya West on X, showed the moment the hippopotamus, seemingly provoked by nearby humans’ shouting and aggressive behaviour, went on a rampage.

The massive animal tore the motorcycle apart, treating it as if it were made of paper.

Eyewitnesses reported that the hippo appeared to feel threatened, reacting instinctively to what it perceived as danger.

“Animals’ instincts are extreme when they sense danger,” Kenya West commented in his post.

“Even a cat will fight like hell. The bike felt like a paperweight, the hippo felt unsafe with the shouting and combativeness of the humans there.”

Tragically, the rampage did not end with the destruction of the motorcycle. The hippopotamus is reported to have mauled a man to death prior to the incident.

Following the attack, officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) were called to the scene. They tracked down the hippopotamus and, after assessing its threat to human safety, made the difficult decision to kill it.
