Violence erupted on the campus of RVIST (Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology) as students clashed with police officers during a protest against alleged mistreatment. The confrontation began when students, rallying against what they described as unfair administrative practices and poor living conditions, marched towards the institution’s main administration block. Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the protesters demanded immediate action from the school authorities to address their grievances.

The situation escalated when the police, who had been called in to maintain order, attempted to disperse the gathering. Tear gas was fired into the crowd, and students responded by hurling stones and other objects at the officers. The once peaceful demonstration quickly turned chaotic, with several injuries reported on both sides. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as the police used batons and water cannons to quell the unrest, while students set up barricades and lit fires in protest.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that the students’ frustration had been building up for weeks. Issues cited include overcrowded dormitories, inadequate facilities, and what they claim to be a lack of response from the school administration regarding their concerns. “We have been patient for too long,” said one student leader. “Our voices need to be heard, and we will not stop until we see real change.”

In the aftermath of the clash, the campus was left in a state of disarray. Broken windows, charred debris, and remnants of tear gas canisters littered the grounds. The administration has called for calm, promising to investigate the students’ claims and take necessary actions. However, the trust between the students and the administration appears to be severely strained, with many students vowing to continue their protest until their demands are met.

The incident has drawn significant media attention, sparking a broader conversation about the state of higher education institutions in the country. Critics argue that the use of force by police was excessive and calls have been made for an independent inquiry into the events. Meanwhile, student unions and human rights organizations are rallying behind the RVIST students, emphasizing the need for peaceful dialogue and resolution.
