Peter Salasya, the Mumias East MP, recently faced a heated confrontation during a radio interview when a presenter questioned him about paying his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) employees via Mpesa.

The issue arose over concerns about transparency and accountability in handling public funds. The emotional exchange highlighted the pressure Salasya faces as a first-time MP, especially given his unconventional path to politics.

Salasya, known for his grassroots connections and dramatic personality, has often been the subject of controversy, both in public and personal spheres.

Despite criticisms over his sometimes erratic behavior, he remains popular in his constituency, largely due to his humble beginnings and relatable story.

Before becoming an MP, Salasya struggled with financial hardships and has shared anecdotes of how he campaigned on foot and bicycle due to a lack of resources.

Salasya’s outburst during the radio interview was a response to ongoing scrutiny about his leadership style, which has often drawn mixed reactions.

While his approach may seem unorthodox to some, many constituents view him as a symbol of resilience and perseverance, given his rise from poverty to national politics.
