Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya asks his fellow MPs to use the same speed they used to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to pass important Bills in the Parliament. Alafu amesema kama ni Moses Wetang’ula atamuwekelea makofi hamsaidii uko Parliament! Watch

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya recently voiced his concerns about the pace of legislative activity in Kenya’s Parliament, calling on his fellow MPs to pass crucial bills with the same urgency they used to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

During a heated parliamentary session, Salasya was among the minority who opposed Gachagua’s impeachment.

Despite intense efforts by some of his colleagues, such as Oscar Sudi, to sway his vote, he remained firm, voting against the motion, which ultimately saw 281 MPs support Gachagua’s removal.

Salasya also expressed frustration with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing him of not providing adequate support in Parliament.

Wetang’ula had formally admitted the impeachment motion against Gachagua, allowing it to proceed after the Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse met the constitutional requirements to move the motion forward

However, Salasya believes that Wetang’ula should have played a more neutral or supportive role for the broader needs of Parliament rather than pushing for Gachagua’s ouster.

Salasya’s public statements reflect his desire for more meaningful legislative progress. He urged his colleagues to shift focus from political power struggles to addressing the real needs of Kenyans, emphasizing that passing important bills should take precedence over internal conflicts.

He also sent a message to Senators like Edwin Sifuna and Okiya Omtatah, asking them to stand with Kenyans and ensure that the political turbulence does not overshadow essential governance issues.
