This clash reflects the growing political rift between Gachagua and other leaders in the region, fueled by his staunch defense of the controversial Finance Bill and his alleged efforts to consolidate a power base in Mt. Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua’s visit coincided with escalating discontent among residents and leaders. His push for the “one man, one vote, one shilling” revenue formula has polarized opinion, with some praising it as fair to Mt. Kenya while others see it as divisive.
Critics, including Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, argue that Gachagua’s rhetoric undermines national unity and portrays President William Ruto as an adversary to Mt. Kenya interests. However, detractors believe Gachagua’s strategy prioritizes local politics at the expense of his national responsibilities, fueling speculation about his ambitions for the 2027 elections.
