Kenyans Shocked After KNEC Releases KPSEA Results at Night, Sparking Criticism

Kenyans were left surprised and angered after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results at night.

The results, for exams conducted in October 2024, were made available on the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal, where schools were instructed to log in and download learner-specific reports.

However, many parents and teachers reported challenges accessing the results due to incomplete or missing requirements in the portal.

The timing of the results’ release sparked criticism from many Kenyans, with a majority questioning why such a major announcement was made so late at night.

Some felt it was inconsiderate, as the candidates had already gone to bed and were unable to view their results immediately.

Kenyans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction. User @mwendemacharia1 questioned, “Why would you release results for children in the middle of the night? Why not during the day?” Similarly, @HuyuErik pointed out that some parents and children in marginalized areas might struggle to access the portal due to limited internet connectivity, making the late-night release even more problematic.

Another user, @wesking72, compared the current situation to the era when Dr. Fred Matiang’i led the education sector, emphasizing that results were released with transparency and fairness during his tenure, restoring public trust.

He noted that delays and secretive releases raise credibility issues in the examination process.

Social media user @_duk3 criticized the release timing, stating, “The results are being released while the children are already asleep.

This government is strange.” Echoing similar sentiments, @bantuh remarked, “Why in the dark? The candidates are asleep, surely.”

Others speculated about the council’s intentions, suggesting the unusual timing was suspicious. @Kaysparks_ commented, “There must be something suspicious here.

Since when did results get released secretly at night, and even worse, on Twitter? Haha, this country never fails to surprise.”

Adding to the criticism, @KambaMwendwa noted, “You had the entire day to make the announcement or could have waited for the next morning.

Why make such an important announcement so late at night?” User @mawecollins also observed, “Releasing results at night makes it seem like you’re hiding something.”

Many parents and schools are still navigating the portal, hoping for clearer communication from KNEC. The council has yet to publicly respond to the concerns raised, leaving many questioning the handling of the examination results.

UPDATE!
The 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) reports are ready and have been uploaded on the CBA portal, https://t.co/rqPtigbPLS. Schools that presented candidates for the assessment are advised to log into the portal and access the learner-specific reports.…
