Breaking: Man Behind June 25 Protest Timetable Reportedly Missing

A man who created and shared a detailed timetable for protests planned for Wednesday, June 25, has reportedly gone missing, with many fearing that he may have been abducted.

Ndiangui Kinyagia, a well-known blogger and activist, is said to have disappeared shortly after he posted the protest schedule on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, June 19.

The post outlined a structured plan for the demonstrations, which included a march to State House and the declaration of a new republic by citizens.

According to the shared timetable, the protest was set to begin at 8:00am with an opening prayer session, followed by a time of praise and worship. This was to be followed by ten minutes of silence to honour the Gen Z youths who lost their lives during last year’s demonstrations against the Finance Bill.

Other key events listed in the timetable included speeches from parents who had lost their children in the previous protests, a time for anticipated confrontations with police, and a public gathering at major roundabouts in Nairobi scheduled for noon.

After this assembly, participants were expected to hold another round of prayers as they prepared to march towards State House—a highly protected area under Kenyan law.

The final part of the schedule indicated that citizens would enter State House, lower the UDA Presidential Standard, and hoist the national flag of Kenya.

This act would symbolise the declaration of a new republic “by the people and for the people.” According to the timetable, a new transition council would be sworn in, and some form of action would be taken against the sitting Head of State.

It is widely believed that this controversial post may have led to Kinyagia’s disappearance. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) released a detailed statement explaining how the suspected abduction occurred.

According to the LSK, eyewitnesses reported that on the afternoon of Saturday, June 21, between six and ten unmarked Subaru vehicles surrounded Kinyagia’s home.

His house was reportedly broken into by force, and the last known communication he had was with his mother at around 1:00pm that day.

Since then, there has been no sign of him. A report about his disappearance was officially lodged at Kinoo Police Station. Authorities also recorded an inventory of items taken from his home, which included electronic gadgets, laptops, passports, and other personal belongings.

In their official statement, the LSK described the incident as strongly resembling an enforced disappearance. They said it points to a possible illegal arrest or detention, calling it a serious violation of human rights and a threat to Kenya’s rule of law.

“The circumstances suggest a case of enforced disappearance. This is a serious breach of constitutional rights and a direct challenge to the rule of law in the country,” the LSK emphasized.

They went on to demand that the authorities act swiftly and transparently to investigate the incident. The LSK also appealed to the public, asking anyone with any relevant information to come forward, regardless of how minor it may seem.

In an interview with Newshub.co.ke on Tuesday, June 24, LSK President Faith Odhiambo said the society would take legal action to compel police to update the public on Kinyagia’s disappearance. She also confirmed that the activist’s family has been unable to find him or make contact since Saturday.

As the June 25 protests draw near, the government has issued stern warnings against any form of violence or provocation directed at the police.

Officials have stressed that while peaceful protests are allowed, turning them into chaotic or violent confrontations will not be tolerated.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a strong warning earlier today, saying any attempts to march towards State House would be considered a violation of the law. He called for demonstrators to avoid such protected areas and act with restraint.

President William Ruto also addressed the issue, promising support for the country’s security agencies but urging them to act within the limits of the law.

With just a day to go before the planned protests, there is growing tension across the country. Many citizens are concerned that the demonstrations could disrupt transportation, business operations, and other essential services.

The disappearance of Ndiangui Kinyagia has only added to the anxiety surrounding the protests, raising fears about freedom of expression and safety for activists in Kenya.
