Breaking: Another Ally of Rigathi Gachagua Arrested

Wanjiku Thiga, a close associate of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has been arrested, sparking concern among her supporters and political allies.

Thiga currently serves as the National Youth Leader and is a member of the National Executive Committee of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Her arrest reportedly took place on Tuesday, July 1, in the Kamakis area of Ruiru. The incident was first brought to light by online users on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

A message posted on Thiga’s official X account at around 1:22 pm on Tuesday read, “I have been abducted at Kamakis,” confirming the incident. According to Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Njeri Maina, Thiga is being held at Ruiru Police Station.

However, Maina expressed serious concern about the lack of transparency from the authorities, claiming that the police officers at the station were unwilling or unable to state the reasons behind her detention.

“Wanjiku Thiga is being held at Ruiru police station, but the officers there say they don’t know what she is being held for,” Maina told reporters.

Thiga’s appointment as the DCP Party’s youth leader came just a few weeks ago, on May 15, a day before the launch of Gachagua’s official political movement.

Since then, she has been active on social media, promoting the party’s agenda and echoing messages from activists who have had previous confrontations with the government.

One of her most recent posts before her arrest involved raising the alarm about the alleged abduction of another Gachagua ally, Peter Kawanjiru.

On Monday evening, Thiga shared images of a chaotic scene outside Kawanjiru’s home in Limuru, claiming that unknown officers were attempting to abduct him.

She wrote, “More than 10 DCI cars outside Peter Kinyanjui KaWanjiru’s home in Limuru! They want to abduct him! Please retweet.” Kawanjiru, like Thiga, holds a youth leadership role in the DCP Party.

Following this incident, Kawanjiru’s family confirmed that he had indeed been taken away by the officers.

They described how tensions escalated after the security team reportedly fired live bullets into the air to disperse concerned residents who had gathered outside the home.

According to witnesses, the standoff between the officers and the crowd lasted over four hours. As of now, Kawanjiru’s whereabouts remain unknown.

These arrests come amid growing speculation that supporters of Gachagua may be facing targeted actions, possibly in connection to the recent unrest that took place on June 25.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has suggested that the chaos was orchestrated by organized groups, although it has not directly linked any of Gachagua’s allies to the events.

When questioned about Gachagua’s possible involvement, DCI Director Amin Mohamed stated on Monday that the former Deputy President was not under investigation at the moment.

However, he noted that Gachagua would be investigated if credible evidence emerged linking him to the case.

As uncertainty grows, supporters of Gachagua and members of the DCP are demanding clarity and accountability from the authorities.

The continued silence around the charges against Thiga and the whereabouts of Kawanjiru has only fueled more questions and raised concerns about the political environment in the country.
