The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a detailed weekly weather forecast, urging residents in specific regions to prepare for rains, showers, and strong winds over the coming days.
While a large part of the country will remain sunny and dry, the weatherman has highlighted several counties that should expect changing weather patterns from Tuesday, December 2, to Saturday, December 6.
Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall
According to the forecast, Nairobi, Kiambu, Marsabit, Meru, Makueni, and Machakos counties will experience periods of rain and showers throughout the week.
These rains may vary in intensity, with some areas likely to see light drizzles while others may receive heavier showers, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
Strong Winds Predicted in Northern Kenya
The Met Department has also warned that Turkana and Marsabit counties are likely to be affected by strong south-easterly winds blowing at speeds of more than 25 knots (about 12.5 m/s).
These winds may cause dust storms, reduced visibility, and difficult conditions for small aircraft and motorists using open roads.
Central Counties to Remain Mostly Sunny
Residents in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi should expect sunny weather during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, the nights will be mostly cloudy. From Thursday to Saturday, these counties may start receiving afternoon and nighttime showers.
The temperatures in this region will vary, with maximum highs of 29°C and minimum lows of about 5°C, especially in the high-altitude zones.
Showers Expected in Eastern and Southern Counties
Areas in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and the inland sections of Tana River County are expected to receive showers and occasional rain throughout the week.
These areas will also experience a wider temperature range, with maximums of 34°C and minimums of about 15°C.
Coastal Region to Experience Consistent Rains
The coastal strip, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, together with parts of Tana River County, will see daylong showers for most of the week. Nights will remain mostly cloudy, and humidity levels are expected to be high.
Temperatures in these coastal areas will reach up to 33°C during the day and drop to around 23°C at night.
Western, Nyanza, and Rift Valley Counties to Stay Mostly Sunny
Most parts of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot will experience sunny conditions for the better part of the week.
However, from Thursday to Saturday, afternoon showers may develop in these regions. Temperatures will remain moderate, with highs of around 32°C and lows of about 7°C, especially in the highland areas.
North-Eastern Counties to Receive Rains Later in the Week
Residents in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will enjoy sunny days and clear nights on Tuesday and Wednesday. But from Thursday onwards, daytime showers and occasional rainfall are expected, which might extend into the night as the week progresses.
Hot and Sunny Conditions in Turkana and Samburu
The forecast shows that Turkana and Samburu counties will continue to experience long hours of sunshine with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures in these regions will be some of the highest in the country, reaching up to 37°C, while nighttime temperatures may drop to around 8°C.
