Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho Dies While Receiving Treatment
Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho has sadly passed away. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed that the third-term lawmaker died on Sunday, March 29, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
At the time this story was being published, the exact cause of his death and the illness he had been battling had not yet been officially disclosed to the public.
Reports indicate that Kiaraho had been unwell for quite some time and had been seeking specialized medical care both within the country and abroad.
His passing has come as a shock to many in Ol Kalou Constituency and across the wider political scene, where he had built a reputation as an experienced and committed legislator.
Following the announcement of his death, Speaker Wetang’ula also revealed that a funeral preparation committee had already been formed to work closely with the family and begin organizing burial arrangements.
The committee tasked with overseeing the funeral plans will be led by Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, with Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau serving as the assistant lead, alongside seven other members of Parliament.
In his condolence message, Wetang’ula expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the National Assembly, its staff, and his own family, sending heartfelt sympathies to the relatives, friends, and constituents of the late MP during this painful period.
Even as he battled illness, Kiaraho remained closely connected to development efforts in his constituency. Several initiatives continued to be carried out in his name, showing the strength of the structures he had put in place.
One recent example was the donation of 40 water tanks from the Kenya Wildlife Service, which were received by his representative to support schools in water harvesting during the rainy season.
The gesture, which happened only days before his death on March 25, reflected his continued commitment to improving the welfare of local communities.
Kiaraho first won the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat in the 2013 General Election and went on to successfully defend it in both the 2017 and 2022 elections, making him one of the most established political figures in Nyandarua County.
Over his three terms in office, he served in key parliamentary committees, including the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing, as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
His final known public appearance was in November last year, when he was seen leading an infrastructure inspection tour in parts of his constituency.
Residents at the time praised his continued focus on roads and development projects despite concerns about his health.
Like many long-serving leaders, Kiaraho’s political journey was not without controversy. During his tenure, his name surfaced in investigations linked to the alleged mismanagement of approximately KSh120 million in NG-CDF funds said to have been disbursed between 2013 and 2018.
In 2020, he was also questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over claims of irregularities in the use of constituency development funds.
Although the investigations attracted national attention, he remained politically strong and retained the confidence of many voters in Ol Kalou.
His death now makes him the second sitting Member of Parliament to die in Kenya this year. The first was Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno, who lost his life alongside five others in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026. The passing of two lawmakers within such a short period has once again drawn national attention to the growing number of by-elections expected this year.
The death of David Njuguna Kiaraho marks the end of a significant political chapter in Ol Kalou.
Having served the constituency for more than a decade, his legacy will likely be remembered through the development projects he championed, his long parliamentary service, and his influence in Nyandarua politics.
As leaders and residents continue to mourn him, attention is now expected to shift toward funeral arrangements and the political future of the constituency he represented for 13 years.
