DCI Releases Fresh Update on Assassination Attempt of Senator

DCI Gives New Details on Delays in Probe Into Alleged Assassination Attempt on Senator

Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin has provided a fresh update on why investigations into the alleged assassination attempt targeting Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo are taking longer than expected.

While appearing before the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations at Bunge Towers in Nairobi on Wednesday, Amin explained that one of the main challenges slowing down the investigation is the delay in analysing crucial phone records obtained from a telecommunications service provider.

According to Amin, investigators have already received important core data from the telco company. However, he emphasized that receiving this information is only one part of the process.

The data must go through detailed and repeated analysis to extract meaningful leads that can help move the case forward.

He noted that the investigation is not a one-time process but rather a continuous cycle. Once the data is reviewed, it often leads to new findings, which then require further examination.

This ongoing back-and-forth process is necessary to build a strong case and ensure that no critical detail is overlooked.

Amin defended the work of his team, saying that handling such sensitive investigations requires patience and thoroughness.

He explained that raw data alone cannot solve the case unless it is carefully analysed, re-analysed, and connected with other pieces of evidence.

Each stage of the process may reveal new information, making the investigation more complex but also more accurate.

In addition to the technical challenges, Amin also revealed that investigators initially faced difficulties reaching the senator herself. This lack of direct communication made it harder for officers to gather key details and slowed down early progress in the case.

The alleged assassination attempt reportedly took place in Kinna town, Isiolo County, during a political rally. The event was being held to campaign for a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate when gunmen allegedly opened fire.

Witnesses at the scene claimed that between six and eight bullets were fired in the direction of Senator Dullo, causing panic among those present.

Following the incident, Senator Dullo later presented herself at DCI offices in Garba Tula, where she officially recorded a statement detailing what had happened during the attack.

Her account, combined with witness statements, forms a critical part of the ongoing investigation.

This is not the first time the senator has expressed concerns about her safety. In October 2024, she raised alarm over a separate alleged assassination plot.

At the time, she accused certain county employees of being involved, claiming that the threats were linked to ongoing political tensions and confrontations with individuals she described as hired goons.

Despite the delays and challenges, Amin reassured the Senate committee that the investigation is still active and progressing.

He expressed confidence in the new team currently handling the case, noting that they are working diligently to uncover the truth.

He maintained that, although the process may take time, the goal is to ensure that the investigation is thorough, credible, and leads to real accountability.

According to him, every piece of evidence is being carefully reviewed to ensure that those responsible, if any, are identified and brought to justice.
