Kenyan musician and activist Reuben Kigame has become a prominent voice against the Finance Bill 2024, rallying citizens with his passionate call to action.

In a powerful statement on his X account, Kigame declared,

“I will not allow wheelchairs to be taxed,”

highlighting the bill’s potential to impose unjust taxes on essential items for people with disabilities.

Kigame, who is blind, has inspired many with his commitment to fighting the bill, which he believes will unfairly burden the most vulnerable,

Folks, I am blind, but I will be on the streets to take my country back,”

he stated, emphasizing the importance of unity and encouraging young people to join the protests.

The Finance Bill has drawn widespread criticism across Kenya, with many arguing that it will worsen the already high cost of living.

Despite the government’s claims that the bill will help boost local revenue and manage debt, citizens remain skeptical and concerned about its impact on daily life.

Kigame has urged peaceful protests, especially in his hometown of Eldoret, where he has called for residents to demonstrate on June 20, 2024.

He has asked participants to wear black attire as a sign of solidarity and to make their voices heard against the bill.

“Eldoret, we are ready! We have a date with destiny. Let us bring this town to a standstill,” he proclaimed, advocating for a non-violent approach to protest.
