Embakasi North MP James Gakuya recently made a bold revelation regarding the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to Gakuya, some MPs who supported the motion were allegedly given KSh 500,000 as a token to sway their decision.

This claim has sparked further controversy around the impeachment, which already involves accusations of gross misconduct and constitutional violations against Gachagua.

The motion, spearheaded by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, has garnered significant attention, with 291 MPs reportedly backing it.

The allegations of bribery add another layer of complexity to Gachagua’s political woes, which some believe are linked to his role in fanning divisions within the government.

Former MPs like Joe Mutambu have suggested that President William Ruto himself may have supported the motion, believing that Gachagua was involved in anti-government protests.

As the motion gains traction, with even National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula acknowledging its seriousness, the Deputy President faces increasing pressure from various factions within the political landscape.

The KSh 500,000 claim raises questions about the transparency of the process, and whether financial incentives are being used to manipulate the outcome.

This issue has further deepened the divide between pro- and anti-Gachagua factions in Parliament, with many awaiting the formal tabling of the motion and the subsequent debate.
