In a heartwarming story from Tharaka Nithi County, Police Constable Felix Otieno extended his duties to support a KCSE candidate by babysitting her young child at Chiakariga Girls Secondary School.

The mother, one of the thousands of candidates sitting for Kenya’s national exams, could focus on her exams thanks to Otieno’s caring gesture.

Such acts highlight the compassion and community spirit shown by Kenya’s officers, especially during challenging times like the KCSE, where parents often juggle family responsibilities with the need to further their education.

Officer Otieno’s action represents a growing emphasis on community policing, where officers support citizens in meaningful ways beyond traditional law enforcement.

His decision to babysit reinforces the notion of police as protectors and allies within their communities, fostering trust and a sense of safety.

The incident has drawn positive reactions nationwide, with many expressing gratitude on social media, describing Otieno’s act as “above and beyond” the call of duty.

This story also underscores the broader theme of family support within the KCSE period, where both students and their families make sacrifices.

In addition to logistics, there are added pressures such as exam security and adherence to new rules set by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), which have intensified this year to prevent irregularities and ensure fairness for all candidates.
