Moi University students have taken to the streets of Eldoret to protest against the new university funding model and delays in the disbursement of student loans by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
The protest, which has caused significant disruption in the Central Business District (CBD), is fueled by frustrations over insufficient financial support, as many students rely on these loans for their basic needs, including accommodation and meals.
The protests come at a time when the HELB CEO stated that the board is experiencing financial difficulties, with a funding gap of KSh 15.5 billion, affecting approximately 500,000 students.
