The police officer struggled with conflicting emotions as he handed in his resignation. The recent protests against the finance bill had torn through the city like a storm, leaving destruction and despair in their wake. He had joined the force to uphold law and order, believing in justice and the protection of citizens. But seeing his own brother caught in the crossfire shattered his faith in the system he had sworn to serve.

His brother’s injury was a stark reminder of the human cost of societal unrest. The officer had spent sleepless nights in the hospital waiting room, grappling with guilt and anger. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he had failed to protect his own flesh and blood, despite wearing the badge that symbolized protection and authority.

Resignation seemed like the only way to reconcile his beliefs with the harsh reality he faced. He questioned whether he could continue enforcing laws that seemed to exacerbate rather than resolve tensions. The uniform that once filled him with pride now felt heavy with the weight of disillusionment.

As he cleaned out his locker, memories flooded his mind — the camaraderie with fellow officers, the moments of genuine connection with the community, and the adrenaline of solving crimes. Yet, these memories were now overshadowed by the image of his brother lying in a hospital bed, a casualty of the very chaos he had sworn to contain.

Walking away from his career in law enforcement was the hardest decision he had ever made. It was a choice between personal integrity and the institutional loyalty that had defined his life until now. He knew the road ahead would be uncertain, but he also felt a flicker of hope that perhaps outside the confines of the force, he could find a way to make a difference that truly mattered.
