121 Stamps Recovered from Suspected Mastermind of the Kes1.6 Billion Bomet Fraud

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recently seized 121 “official” stamps belonging to various companies from Bomet Roads Engineer Victor Kipkemoi Cheruiyot, who is suspected to be at the center of a Kes1.6 billion fraud case.

This operation, which implicates several high-ranking officials including CEC members and chief officers, led to the arrest of multiple individuals by EACC on Thursday.

Engineer Cheruiyot reportedly fled the scene during a search operation, leaving detectives behind in his residence.

The search revealed a fully established office within his home, where investigators believe he created fraudulent documents for non-existent construction projects.

These documents are suspected to have facilitated illicit payments, allegedly in collusion with top county officials.

Additionally, detectives uncovered a large collection of procurement and payment documents within Cheruiyot’s home.

These included “approved” contracts for numerous companies, unsigned bid documents awaiting authorization, local purchase orders, unused payment vouchers, procurement requisitions for various construction projects, and payment requests directed to various companies.

Authorities suspect that all these documents may be forgeries intended to support the fraudulent scheme.

The fugitive engineer, Victor Cheruiyot, is one of several suspects from Bomet under investigation for conflict of interest, unexplained wealth, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.

Authorities have disclosed that Cheruiyot owns several companies, including Hamron Logistics Ltd, Wincheru Construction Ltd, and Vird Building & Construction Ltd.

These firms have been awarded multimillion-shilling contracts by the Bomet County Government, raising further questions about potential corruption within the administration.
