Kenyan Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly criticized advocates of the ‘One Man, One Vote, One Shilling’ revenue-sharing formula, branding them as enemies to the nation’s unity.
Speaking during a youth empowerment fundraiser in Isiolo North, Murkomen underscored that the presence of vital infrastructure projects like the 800-kilometer Nairobi-Moyale Road and the burgeoning Lamu Port stands as a testament to visionary planning, contrasting it with the narrow scope of the ‘One Man, One Vote, One Shilling’ approach.
“President Kibaki had a grand dream for the development of marginalized areas. We shall complete the dream of our founding fathers to tarmac roads in the North from Isiolo to Mandera, complete LAPSSET corridor from Lamu to Isiolo via Garissa in this first term of this administration,” Murkomen stated.
Proponents of the ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’ revenue-sharing formula, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Azimio leader Raila Odinga, have staunchly asserted that the formula does not entail withholding funds from regions with smaller populations.
Murkomen however stated that most of those talking about the formula do not even know what it entails.
“Those advocating for certain regions to receive a larger allocation are adversaries of Kenya’s unity. I have no hesitation in proclaiming this,” he stated firmly.
He continued by adding even as Cabinet Secretary, he has a huge responsibility to ensure every Kenyan is a winner.
“Those who argue for specific regions to receive a greater allocation are undermining the unity of Kenya. I have no reservations in expressing this.”
Murkomen provided assurance to pastoralist communities and marginalized regions, reaffirming their entitlement to fair and proportionate development initiatives.
He emphasized that leaders bear the responsibility of ensuring equitable development across the nation.
